Our story

Pyxis was founded in 2016 by Ian Weber, Max Lee, and Jimmy Tang to empower asset managers to make better-informed investment decisions by leveraging analytics based on alternative data.

In its first year, Pyxis was a Y Combinator finalist and accepted into the MetaProp Accelerator at Columbia University. Bain Consulting became Pyxis’ first paid client in 2017, which led to the completion of 70+ projects over two years.

During that period, Pyxis developed a repeatable, profitable business model and grew rapidly by expanding to other consultancies, private equity funds, and corporate clients.
Pyxis was acquired by Bain & Co. on December 19th, 2019. At the time of acquisition, Pyxis was the only independent firm proficient in leveraging all available forms of consumer behavior data including: credit and debit card transactions, email receipts, clickstream, Amazon order history, UPC scans, restaurant SKUs, GPS and foot traffic, conversion rates, and more.

As part of Bain, Pyxis’ growth accelerated. In the following three years, the company generated a 1,000% increase in revenue, concurrently expanding its team to encompass 80 full-time employees and contractors.

To this date, Pyxis remains one of the only analytics companies that works with data partners that span the entirety of the global alternative data landscape.
